DILG chief: Ano is most than qualified to serve as a national security adviser.
Eduardo Ano is more than qualified to serve as the nation’s national security adviser, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Tuesday.
Abalos claimed in a statement that he saw Ano run the DILG effectively under the Duterte government.
“When I was chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, I saw Ano’s dedication and talent firsthand because I was with him when he engaged in dialogues with Metro Manila mayors to address issues pertaining to local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region.
In the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the height of the coronavirus epidemic, Abalos claimed he collaborated with Ano to devise plans and methods to assure the safety of Metro Manila citizens.
These include implementing health and safety procedures and launching the Covid-19 immunization program in the area.
Ano’s significant experience as the head of the Philippine Armed Forces and secretary of the DILG, in Abalos’ opinion, will enable him to successfully carry out his new position.
“Our new National Security Council (NSC) chief can rely on the support and cooperation of the DILG and the Philippine National Police along with the LGUs in the programs and policies that he will put in place for the general safety and well-being of the nation.
Ano, 61, graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in the year 1983.
He took over for Dr. Clarita Carlos, who left the position to “continue her pursuit of scholastic interests” at the Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department of the House of Representatives.
