Building a new campus and beginning medical school at Benguet State University

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the municipal administration, Kibungan town will house the seventh campus of Benguet State University (BSU).

The School of Advanced Studies will be located on the proposed facility, according to BSU President Felipe Comila on Tuesday (SAS).

He declared, “We are providing education to remote communities to realize growth and stop ignorance from flourishing. BSU campuses also opened in the towns of Kapangan, Itogon, and Kabayan during the pandemic.

At the same time, the BSU is getting ready for the start of the School Year 2023–2024’s first semester of classes at its College of Medicine.

According to him, PHP45 million from the office of Senator Pia Cayetano has been set aside and included in the university’s general allocations. This money will be used exclusively for the College of Medicine’s launch.

He stated that PHP25 million of that sum will be used to buy equipment, PHP10 million to buy furniture, and the remaining PHP25 million will be used to hire staff.

The College of Medicine and the College of Nursing will share a building until a new structure is built.

According to the representative, the anticipated enrollment for the new course is 50 students. He promised the students that their costs would be significantly lower than if they attended medical schools in Metro Manila.

According to Comila, the pandemic led to the university’s efforts to establish more campuses.

We learned from the epidemic that people should stay at home and that the government should provide closer services, including education, so we complied with the LGU’s recommendations for the building of the campuses, according to Comila.

Prior to the pandemic, students from the communities had to go back and forth between their homes and the more expensive cities of La Trinidad and this one.

If there are campuses in the communities, getting an education will be less expensive, the official claimed.

According to Comila, they intend to establish BSU campuses in each of the 13 communities in the province.

The government contributes PHP50,000 per student per semester to the state university, where nearly all of the students are scholars.

By increasing the number of students at BSU to 50,000, Comila explained, “More Benguet people will be receiving formal education, which translates to power that will make us develop.
