Solon argues for the establishment of an autism center.

The national government was urged by Senator JV Ejercito to focus on the needs and welfare of the over 1.2 million Filipinos who fall within the autistic spectrum.

Ejercito argued that it is past time for the government to provide care for children and people who have autism and other intellectual disabilities in Senate Bill 2062, or an Act Establishing Center for Autism.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 68 people worldwide and one in 100 Filipinos in the Philippines are affected with autism spectrum disease. (ASD).

ASD is a brain-based condition that impacts social skills, communication abilities, and conduct. It encompasses Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Rett Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, Kanner’s syndrome, and Rett Syndrome. (PDDNOS).

The goal of Ejercito’s proposal is to construct a center for autism, complete with diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitation clinics, adult vocational training programs, and free diagnostic and rehabilitation services for autistic people in need.

Additionally, it suggests training courses for therapists, teachers, and other medical personnel who will work with children and people with autism.

According to his idea, the National Autism Board, which would report to the Office of the President, would oversee the Center for Autism. (OP).

The center will be run by a representative of the Department of Health, and members will come from the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, the Department of Education, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The board will also include two representatives from the Autism Society of the Philippines and two parents of autistic children and adults.

The facility will be launched with a PHP50 million first grant from the OP.
