Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Negros Oriental province provided over PHP44.9 million in funding from January to May of this year, assisting more than 7,000 workers.

At a Kapihan sa PIA forum on Thursday, DOLE-Negros Oriental information officer Bless De Padua revealed that the disbursed TUPAD fund was a portion of the PHP74,610,566 overall allotment for this year.

From Jan. 1 to May 10, a total of 7,730 emergency workers from different towns and cities of Negros Oriental benefited from the PHP44.9 million funding.

According to her, TUPAD funding was distributed via the barangays and local government units (LGUs), which are responsible for selecting the grantees.

A beneficiary of the TUPAD program receives PHP435 per day for 10 days or even longer, depending on how long they are temporarily employed by the LGU or barangay.

Street cleaners, canal cleaners, and communal gardeners are just a few of the people that benefit from TUPAD.

De Padua added some LGUs seek to recruit these disadvantaged workers for 15, 20, or even 30 days, depending on the nature of the work.
For those who are jobless, underpaid, displaced, or seasonal workers, TUPAD aims to offer emergency aid.
