For the more than 3,500 households who have already been evacuated due to the ongoing eruption of Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, Albay, the Diocese of Legazpi is currently taking donations.

The immediate needs of the refugees have been discovered during their Rapid Field Assessments (RFAs), according to Fr. Eric Matillano, executive director of the Legazpi Social Action Centre (SAC).

These include shelter, non-food products, food, health, and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene).

“SAC Legazpi welcomes donations in cash and kind,” he declared.

According to the diocese’s SAC’s most recent situation report, 3,658 households, or 12,291 people, are affected.

In-kind donations may be given to nearby parishes or to the Legazpi SAC office at the Albay Cathedral Compound, the official from the Legazpi SAC said.

The Catholic priest advised anyone making monetary donations to send it to their BPI account with the name Social Action Center-SPM and the number 0851-0067-37.

Due to Mayon’s high level of unrest and the potential for a dangerous eruption, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) elevated the alert level to 3 last week.
