It is suggested that Filipinos in Moscow avoid travel and take all required safety measures as the Russian paramilitary group Wagner takes up arms against the Russian military hierarchy.

On Saturday, as hostilities increased, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to take action against the organization and accused Wagner commander Yevgeny Prigozhin of instigating an “armed mutiny.”

According to a report from Reuters on Saturday, a “convoy of rebel mercenaries advanced more than halfway towards Moscow” after seizing the city of Rostov overnight.

The Philippine Embassy in Moscow said that Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin had already implemented “counter-terrorism measures” over the entire city, including severe traffic regulations and the ban on gatherings.

It continued, “There are also events in Rostov-on-Don, such as military movements there that the Embassy is still confirming. May kaganapan din po sa Rostov-on-Don, tulad ng pag-galaw ng mga militar doon.”

The Embassy warned all Filipino residents of the nation to heed local cautions, exercise caution in crowded areas, and refrain from publishing political commentary on social media.

Additionally, it requested that Filipino residents of Belgorod, Rostov-on-Don, and other areas close to the border between Russia and Ukraine tell the Embassy of their circumstances.
