Representative Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino of the OFW Party list has filed House Resolution No. 1105, urging an inquiry into the “perennial” complaints lodged against domestic airlines.

Magsino emphasized the need to address the concerns repeatedly raised by airline passengers, particularly overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). She highlighted the consistent and ongoing complaints, including issues of overbooking, flight delays, and cancellations without proper explanations, long queues, mobile app glitches, lost baggage, unnecessary security checks, lackluster customer assistance, and other operational problems that contribute to disappointing and frustrating travel experiences.

She further pointed out that these problems have resulted in revoked overseas employment contracts and penalties for delayed arrivals, impacting the lives of OFWs significantly. Magsino stressed the substantial role of the aviation industry in labor migration, emphasizing how flight price changes, scheduling chaos, and airport issues directly affect the livelihood of OFWs.

During a Senate hearing on airline passenger complaints against Cebu Pacific, an OFW named Rafael Bartolome, based in Qatar, shared his firsthand experience of multiple flight cancellations. The OFW Party-list endorsed Bartolome’s case, along with that of another OFW from Saudi Arabia who faced salary deductions due to a missed flight, to the Senate Committee on Tourism.

Magsino emphasized that the consequences of “bad service” extend beyond the negative impact on air passengers; they also undermine crucial pillars of the country’s economy, namely tourism and labor migration. 🛬💼
