In May, the national government extended subsidies amounting to PHP7.38 billion to government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).

Data from the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) revealed that this figure was slightly lower than the PHP7.9 billion provided in the same month last year.

Once again, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) emerged as the largest recipient of budgetary support, receiving PHP4.22 billion.

The National Food Authority ranked second on the list, receiving PHP849 million, followed by the National Housing Authority with PHP363 million in subsidies.

Other GOCCs that received substantial subsidies, surpassing PHP100 million, include the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PHP319 million), Philippine Heart Center (PHP271 million), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PHP239 million), Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PHP173 million), and National Kidney and Transplant Institute (PHP125 million), as per BTr data.

Over the first five months of the year, the national government’s subsidies to GOCCs have totaled PHP37.6 billion.

The NIA remains the top recipient, with a subsidy amounting to PHP18.28 billion, followed by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. with PHP5 billion.

In April, the budgetary support for GOCCs reached PHP8.9 billion, marking an increase from PHP5.1 billion in the same month last year, although lower than the PHP10.79 billion allocated in March.
