Manila Cathedral has canceled the visit of the Black Nazarene image.
Black Nazarene’s visit to Manila Cathedral has been called off
People were supposed to go to Manila Cathedral for the Dalaw Nazarene 2022, which was supposed to happen on January 6 and 7. Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases and reminders from the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) and the DOH (Department of Health), it’s better to postpone it first, the cathedral said in an advisory on Wednesday night. It also told the faithful to only pray in their homes and follow Masses and prayer on the Quiapo Church Facebook page, which is run by the church.
People in the country have been seeing a picture of the Black Nazarene in different churches as part of the celebration of the feast of the black Jesus Christ on January 9.
This was done so that people could remember the annual event in the midst of the pandemic.
On Wednesday, the country had more than 10,775 new cases of Covid-19, according to the most recent report from the Department of Health.
Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, who is in charge of Manila, told people to stay at home and only go to the online Masses at Quiapo Church as part of the celebrations for the Feast of the Black Nazarene, which is on Sunday.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t live near the church in Quiapo, where Holy Mass is celebrated every hour, he said in a statement Wednesday night.
During the feast of the Dear Lord, it’s hard for us not to go to Quiapo. Let’s use new technology to let the Lord Nazareno come to our homes and families, he said.
Advincula said they will follow the government’s advice because they don’t want the annual event to make the spread of infections even worse right now, so they won’t hold it.
As your shepherds, we, too, are very worried about the rapid rise in cases of Covid-19 in our country, especially in the NCR (National Capital Region). We also worry that the upcoming feast of the Lord Jesus of Nazareth of Quiapo will make things even worse. NTF (National Task Force) and other groups have already met with the leaders of the Quiapo Church. They also met with the government of Manila. From January 7 to January 9, the Mass at Quiapo Church will only be available online to avoid a lot of people, he said.
