DILG to LGUs: Persuade unvaccinated people at checks to be vaccinated.

On Wednesday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local government units (LGU) to come up with innovative solutions to deal with those who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and are stopped at checkpoints.

In a letter to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano praised the Taguig Local Government Unit under Mayor Lino Cayetano for persuading unvaccinated people to stop at checkpoints to get vaccinated right away at vaccination locations.

“This is a best practice that other LGUs should follow.” Other efforts and concepts to urge individuals to get vaccinated may still be developed by LGUs “Ano said.

He previously stated that he supports ideas to bring the unvaccinated to inoculation clinics for vaccinations.

“On the first day of implementation, Taguig City did just that, confining unvaccinated people to their houses. They apprehended 400 people at their checkpoints. They were taken to a vaccination location and agreed to be vaccinated “Ano added to the conversation.

Cayetano has ordered the installation of vaccination registration booths as well as the dispatch of shuttle cars to checkpoints across the city.

The initiative was developed to ensure that citizens who wanted to get vaccinated had simpler access to vaccinations.

On the first day of the program’s deployment, roughly 450 unvaccinated individuals who were flagged at checkpoints and requested to get immunized were taken to the city’s vaccination hubs and given their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The city also applies exemptions for individuals who are unvaccinated and can only travel to acquire vital commodities, as well as those who are unable to be inoculated due to medical concerns.

Cayetano stated that the city would continue to take steps to prevent the virus from spreading and to protect its inhabitants and staff.

As of January 16, Taguig City had fully vaccinated 736,615 people, accounting for 84 percent of the city’s estimated population for 2022, according to the Department of Health.

More than 100,000 booster dosages have also been given out by the city.

Meanwhile, according to the results of his reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Monday night, Ano has already tested negative for Covid-19.

“Just to be safe, I’ll finish my isolation on the same day I’m supposed to go out,” he said, adding that his seclusion is set to end on Thursday.
