Unvaccinated tourists stuck at the Manila North Port Terminal since January 17 have been receiving cash aid of PHP5,000 per family from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The DSWD is also providing family food packs, as well as personal and hygiene kits, to 99 stranded Badjaos, according to the DSWD.

“The stranded Badjaos were supposedly returning to their home provinces,” it stated, “but they were not allowed to go for health and safety grounds because the bulk of them are unvaccinated and have lapsed RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test results.”

The Manila city administration provided immediate help to the stranded indigenous peoples’ group by delivering hot meals and facilitating vaccinations.

The DSWD said it worked with the local authorities to see if the stranded people’s food rations could be extended until they returned to their homes.

The Badjaos are currently housed in the waiting area/parking area of Pier 4 in Manila.

According to the DSWD, several tents were also set up as a temporary refuge for them.

The stranded Badjaos will be rebooked by the private group 2Go Travel.

They were also profiled in order to establish what extra interventions they require, according to the DSWD.
