The Supreme Court (SC) granted a new temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, this time over the denial of a party-list organization’s registration.

The Comelec was given a non-extendible time of 10 days to file a reply on the suit filed by Juan-Pinagkaisang Ordinaryong Mamamayan Para Yumabong, according to the TRO signed by Deputy Clerk of Court Anna-Li Gombio on behalf of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo (Juan Pinoy).

On January 3, the group filed a TRO, questioning Comelec’s decision to dismiss its registration petition on Oct. 12, 2021.

On December 13, Juan Pinoy’s plea for reconsideration was also denied.

The 178 that will appear on the ballots are party-list groupings that received TROs before the printing on January 20.

The Comelec announced that 65,745,512 ballots will be printed for local voting and 1,697,202 votes will be printed for foreign voting.

It’s yet unclear how party lists that win their bids to be included in the May 9 elections will be accommodated in the vote boxes.
