Covid patients are now accepted in Davao’s private hospitals.

Because of the rising number of illnesses, private hospitals in the city have begun admitting coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, according to the local government.

The introduction of Covid beds at private hospitals, according to Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson for the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, is due to a surge of cases in the city that has overburdened the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

“Admittedly, (the) SPMC is overburdened because it is Davao City’s sole public hospital that treats Covid-19 cases,” Schlosser explained.

Private hospitals in Davao, such as Davao Doctors Hospital, San Pedro Hospital, Brokenshire Hospital, Metro Davao Medical, and Research Center, Inc., and Anda Riverview Medical Center, Inc., have made beds available to Covid-19 patients.

After the SPMC announced that it was overwhelmed with patients, the majority of these institutions began accepting Covid-19 patients.

Due to an increase of patients and a lack of hospital beds, the SPMC declared on January 21 that it would accept mostly moderate to critical Covid-19 cases.

“Only non-Covid-19 situations will be urgent or emergent.” We’d also like to emphasize that no coordinated referrals or transfers will be made. All referrals must go through the One Hospital Command Center hotline lines (Smart) 0961-579-8494 or (Globe) 0995-171-8407, according to the SPMC.

While the SPMC has been overloaded, other hospitals, city-run isolation facilities, and Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMFs) continue to accept patients, according to Schlosser.

“We are allowed to undertake home isolation during a spike.” Yes, our TTMFs are at capacity, but we’ve also authorized home isolation for people who satisfy the criteria,” she explained.

She also advised the Dabawenyos to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves from the coronavirus, which is still prevalent and active.

On January 28, Davao City recorded an additional 901 new cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 9,823, with 1,047 new recoveries and three fatalities.
