PRRD is overjoyed by the completion of new Zambo infrastructure projects.

President Rodrigo Duterte hailed the completion of infrastructure development projects in Zamboanga City on Thursday, anticipating that the initiatives would boost economic activity and jobs in Mindanao and the rest of the country.

This comes after he led an inspection of Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) development projects, including the recently rebuilt Passenger Terminal Building (PTB).

He complimented the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and other public and commercial partners for doing a “decent job” in improving the Zamboanga airport in his remarks.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the renewed social economic activity that this freshly expanded project would promote not only in Zamboanga but throughout Mindanao,” he said.

The renovated ZIA is intended to add more Southeast Asian destinations to its flying routes.

He also oversaw the ceremonial inauguration of the 143 Social and Tourism Ports completed during 2016, as well as the Zamboanga Seaport Development Project in the Port of Zamboanga.

He praised the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) efforts in leading the building, renovation, and extension of ports that are expected to increase Filipinos’ connection and mobility.

“Under the government’s Build, Build, Build initiative, they are significant milestones.” The completion of these projects will encourage inclusive growth in our provinces’ different businesses, particularly the shipping, fishing, and tourist sectors,” he stated.

“We can now look forward to a stronger economy and improved lifestyles for our people under the new normal,” he added, noting that more employees will be developed for diverse localities.

The development of new and modern ports, as well as the restoration, upgrading, and expansion of existing ones, is projected to increase access to coastal and island communities in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, particularly in displaced areas.

The initiatives also aim to improve port facilities for fishermen, Banca operators, and the general public, which will improve maritime mobility and connection, as well as provide chances for economic, tourism, and income generation.

In the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, Duterte reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to long-term infrastructure development in the Philippines.

“As my tenure draws to a close, let me reiterate that, despite the challenges caused by the epidemic, our administration will continue to implement critical infrastructure projects to better Filipinos’ lives,” he added.

“We remain dedicated to pursuing long-term development projects that will benefit all of our kababayans,” he added.
