The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Thursday that Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will visit the Philippines on a working visit from February 13 to 15.

He will meet with Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. to discuss the existing and future directions of Philippine-India relations, as well as other regional and global issues of mutual concern.

“Minister Jaishankar’s visit is seen as a confirmation of the Philippines and India’s willingness to strengthen their ties in the post-Covid era,” the DFA stated in a statement.

The two top diplomats are likely to discuss advances in bilateral relations since they co-chaired a virtual meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation in November 2020.

Ways to solve the global health problem, collaboration in health and pharmaceuticals, and economic regeneration in the domains of agriculture, energy, and information and communications technology were among the topics considered at the time.

Potential collaboration in maritime security, intelligence sharing, military training, procurement and logistics, counter-terrorism, expanding air links and tourism, supporting growing educational and student exchanges, and in the promising fields of alternative and traditional medicine, vaccine development, and renewable energy were also discussed.

During his tour, Jaishankar will meet with Filipino officials as well as visit the Indian community in Manila.
