The Department of Foreign Affairs is preparing repatriation plans for Filipinos in Ukraine.
MANILA, Philippines — In the midst of escalating tensions and invasion fears in Ukraine, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is planning different repatriation plans for Filipinos living there.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs is working closely with its Foreign Service Posts in the region to make arrangements for Overseas Filipinos in Ukraine who seek to return to the Philippines. The situation at Ukraine’s border is still fluid, and security conditions could shift at any time “In a statement released on Tuesday, it stated.
The DFA stated that talks with the Filipino community, as well as other countries and international partners, are ongoing to assist Filipino nationals who want to relocate to safer places. This includes the European Union, which is responsible for ensuring Filipinos’ safe travel through EU borders.
“We strongly advise Filipinos in Ukraine to maintain contact with the Philippine Embassy in Poland and wait for updates, advisories, and safety instructions,” the DFA added.
The Philippine Embassy in Warsaw has already encouraged them to leave the European state while they can, according to the Filipino community group United Filipino Global Ukraine.
“Iisa lang daw ng Embassy advise at wala nang iba. ‘Umuwi ng Pilipinas habang puwede pa (The Embassy’s counsel is the only one.) While you still have the opportunity, return to the Philippines),’ “It cited a February 13 meeting with the Embassy as evidence.
Shirley Santosildes, the leader of United Filipino Global Ukraine, told the ANC on Tuesday that eight Filipinos had already taken advantage of the government’s free repatriation flight, the first of which is due to leave on February 17.
Meanwhile, she stated that the atmosphere in Kyiv is regular and “quite tranquil,” but that several Filipinos have already fled.
“Everything in Kyiv is working at the moment, and everything is normal. There are no signs of tension in the transportation system, the store, or anywhere else. But, for the time being, we’re all hoping that nothing like that happens “she stated
Filipinos in Ukraine should contact the Philippine Embassy in Poland as soon as possible using the following information:
Emergency WhatsApp/Viber: +48 604 357 396
National Assistance: +48 694 491 663
Email: warsaw.pe@dfa.gov.ph
According to the latest data from the DFA, there are approximately 380 Filipinos living in Ukraine.
