AirAsia PH will reactivate three international flights in order to boost tourism.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” To help speed the recovery of the labor and tourism sectors from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, AirAsia Philippines plans to introduce two new domestic flights in April and May, as well as restart three overseas destinations in April.

“Not only would the restoration of flights to important Asian cities boost business opportunities. It will help hasten the recovery process, particularly in the labor and tourist industries,” said Steve Dailisan, spokesperson for AirAsia Philippines, to the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.

AirAsia Philippines will resume service to and from Bali, Indonesia, Bangkok, Thailand, and Incheon, South Korea by April. The flight frequencies for these, according to Dailisan, may be revealed next week.

Prior to the epidemic, he claimed, the airline flew twice daily to Incheon, once daily to Bali, and 11 times weekly to Bangkok, serving tourists and overseas Filipino employees. The following are the pre-pandemic load factors: 84.4 percent in Incheon, 89.8 percent in Bali, and 92 percent in Bangkok.

Two new internal routes, Dumaguete and Roxas, will be opened in April and May, respectively, according to Dailisan.

“The opening of the Dumaguete and Roxas (routes) would help to enhance the Central and Western Visayas gateways, giving passengers from these provinces more access to secure and convenient flights,” Dailisan added.

According to a press release, the government’s reduced travel rules and protocols have had a significant impact on inbound travel and domestic tourism.

“The adaptable method used in our pandemic response is exactly what our country requires to advance,” he added, adding that the carrier is pleased with the development.

After nearly two years of shutdown because of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the Philippines reopened its borders to properly vaccinate foreign tourists on February 10. Quarantine is no longer necessary for inbound international travelers.
