MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. assured Filipinos in Ukraine on Wednesday that they would be safe during the Ukraine-Russia border issue.

Locsin said in a tweet that he was reaching out to countries that share shared borders with the Eastern European country to ensure that Filipinos can leave safely.

“Rest assured that Filipinos in Ukraine will not be harmed; I will personally oversee the situation. In two days, I’ll be finished in Cambodia, and on the 19th, I’ll be in Paris for the ASEAN-EU summit. That’s close enough to Ukraine for them to make a safe exit “he stated

According to Locsin, the Filipino people will be transported by land to the nearest border.

According to the latest data from the Department of Foreign Affairs, there are approximately 380 Filipinos in Ukraine.

Shirley Santosildes, the leader of United Filipino Global Ukraine, claimed in a recent ANC interview that the Philippine government is arranging free repatriation planes, the first of which is set to depart on February 17. As of February 15, eight people had signed up for the program.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to offer an updated number of Filipinos expected to board the flight.
