Duterte opens the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, which was sponsored by China.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, which will enable faster connectivity between two of Manila’s busiest areas, was inaugurated by President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday.
Duterte claimed in his speech that the China-funded bridge will allow Filipinos to benefit from economic growth and increased productivity.
He claimed that the completion of the PHP3.39 billion bridge project demonstrates that the country is working together to build infrastructure that is greener, more sustainable, and climate change resistant.
“Through innovative physical integration, we intend to provide greater mobility and connectivity to current and future generations,” he stated.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its partners were commended by Duterte for finishing “one of the major projects of this administration’s Build, Build, Build program,” which he described as “one of the key projects of this administration’s Build, Build, Build program.”
“I commend you all for your tireless efforts in bringing this idea to fruition. Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by [the] Covid-19 pandemic, you have all remained committed to connecting people and places by finishing this project,” he said.
He also thanked the People’s Republic of China for working with him to improve critical infrastructure projects in the country.
Meanwhile, Duterte reaffirmed his commitment to offer a pleasant living for every Filipino through a variety of growth and success chances.
The bridge, according to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, is the 16th G-to-G (government-to-government) project constructed between China and the Philippines since 2016.
“We can see the rewards of our cooperation and the bright future of our relations from the Binondo-Intramuros bridge.” “We are eager to engage with the Philippine side to deepen our cooperation for the sake of our peoples,” he said, expressing hope for future cooperative projects.
With a viaduct construction across Estero de Binondo, the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge is a two-way, four-lane, 680-meter long structure that connects Intramuros and Binondo at Solana Street and Riverside Drive, and Binondo at Rentas Street, Plaza del Conde Street, and Muelle dela Industria.
Between two of Manila’s busiest areas, the project is estimated to help roughly 30,000 passing automobiles each day.
It was created to help alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila as more individuals undertake on-site employment in the new normal.
A bicycle lane with thermoplastic road lines and sheltered sidewalks on both sides is also part of the project.
The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge is one of many high-profile projects in the works in Metro Manila to help Duterte realize his aim of an improved road network and enhanced transportation capacity.
A total of 12 bridges over the Pasig River, Marikina River, and the Manggahan Floodway are being considered as part of the Metro Manila Logistics Network, three of which have already been completed, five of which are under procurement, three of which are under financing negotiations with China, and one under private initiative.
