The proposed change to “Alert Level 0” is not yet feasible.

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte stated on Tuesday that it is not the right moment to authorize a further de-escalation of the country’s alert level status.

Duterte thumbed down the suggested transition to “Alert Level 0” in his prerecorded Talk to the People, stating the recommendation isn’t yet feasible because there are still cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the country.

“Ang (The) limitation is… You know, every desire is balik na sa zero or one. Many people want to implement [Alert Level] 0 or 1 (You know, many people want to implement [Alert Level] 0 or 1.) That’s… That isn’t possible since there are still areas [affected by Covid-19], according to Duterte.

The announcement came as Duterte warned of a possible rise of Covid-19 infections in the Philippines.

This comes as he cites an increase in coronavirus cases in other nations, notably the United States and Japan, which have lifted their limitations.

“Kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi (There will be reinfection, given that there is a new mutant.) Diyan magkaproblema We’ll have a problem),” warned Duterte.

The term “Alert Level 0” is not yet officially recognized.

Duterte stated that the most mild Alert Level 1 would continue to be implemented in most parts of the country.

He stated that he would only consider implementing Alert Level 0 if the Covid-19 situation in the country improved.

“‘Yung Alert 1 would still be a nice parang buffer natin until talagang virtually isa o dalawa na lang all throughout the country.” Huwag na munang tanggalin natin iyan (Alert Level 1 would continue to be an useful buffer until we only have one or two cases across the country.) “We won’t lift it) until we’re absolutely certain that everything is fine, particularly in sa ating lugar (here in our home),” he said.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, the country documented roughly 2,548 new coronavirus illnesses from March 30 to April 5.

From March 30 to April 5, Duque reported an average of 364 instances per day.

Duterte reiterated his call for people to use face masks and adhere to minimum public health requirements.

The Department of Health (DOH) previously stated that further loosening of Covid-19 restrictions would occur only once all areas of the country had been placed on Alert Level 1.

For the first half of April, Metro Manila, along with 56 other cities and provinces and over 100 component cities and municipalities, has been placed on Alert Level 1.

Movement of people of all ages and comorbidities is permitted in areas designated as Alert Level 1, but there are still restrictions on crowded and closed spaces, as well as close contact (3Cs) settings.

Subject to minimal public health standards, private businesses and government organizations can function at full capacity on-site.

Unless people are eating and drinking, participating in team and individual sports in venues where ventilation standards can be maintained, or engaging in outdoor sports or exercise activities where physical distance can still be observed, wearing well-fitted face masks is still required.
