MANILA, Philippines — A health official stated Tuesday that another round of special immunization days in areas with low inoculation coverage will be held in April and May.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire announced in an online media forum that social mobilization activities about Covid-19 vaccination would be held in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). As of April 10, the region had barely reached 28% of its target population.

The special immunization days will be held in the following locations:

On April 20 to 22, Soccsksargen, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental will compete.

On the 5th and 7th of May, Marawi City will host a series of events.

On the 11th and 13th of May, Lamitan City and Sulu will host a festival.

On the 11th and 13th of May, as well as the 16th and 18th of May, Basilan will be closed.

From May 16 to 20, the province of Lanao del Sur will host a festival.

On the 17th and 19th of May, Maguindanao will host a festival.

From the 18th to the 20th of May, Tawi-Tawi will be open to the public.

The 25th and 26th of April will be spent in Palawan.

More than 67 million people have been properly vaccinated against Covid-19 as of April 18.

A total of 1.5 million youngsters aged 5 to 11 years old and 9.1 million teenagers have received all of their vaccines.

“Ang atin pong nabigyan ng booster shots (Nasa 12.7 million indibidwal na ang atin pong nabigyan ng booster shots),” Veregeire said.

So far, 36 million people who are eligible for booster shots have not received them.

The Department of Health reported in its weekly bulletin on Monday that 74.28 percent of the country’s target population had been vaccinated against Covid-19.

BARMM’s objective

BARMM aims to reach 1.4 million completely immunized inhabitants in its five provinces, according to Naguib Sinarimbo, the Minister of the Interior and Local Government.

Sinarimbo stated the BARMM government will deliver at least 215,776 doses during the special vaccine days and will establish more sites, according to a public briefing held in Laging Handa on Tuesday.

Inoculation hubs could be used in congregations and prayer places.

The BARMM has the lowest vaccination rate against Covid-19 of the 17 regions countrywide, with only 27 percent fully vaccinated out of the three million goal as per last count.

Vaccine apprehension and geographic location are two of the reasons, according to Sinarimbo.

“Talagang may mga malalayo, na mahirap i-access, kaya nagkakaroon tayo ng challenge din doon sa pagbabakuna,” he remarked.
