MANILA, Philippines — Based on diminishing Covid-19 instances, the Philippines is now considered “low” risk by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) new approach for travel risk assessment.

According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only the Philippines and Myanmar are classified as “Level 1: Covid-19 Low” in Southeast Asia as of April 18.

A location must have had 49 or fewer new cases per 100,000 population in the previous 28 days to be put below this level.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified countries into the following categories:
• Level 3: High risk for Covid-19
• Level 2: Moderate risk for Covid-19
• Level 1: Low risk for Covid-19
• Unknown: Not enough data to assess risk

High risk or Level 3 countries include Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom, as well as other popular tourist destinations such as Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, and Thailand.

In the Philippines, Covid-19 instances are on the decline, with a daily average of only 224 for the week of April 12 to 18, down 17 percent from the previous week’s 271.

For the same week, a total of 1,571 new cases were reported.

More than 70% of the Philippines’ target population has been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

According to the latest data from the National Task Force Against Covid-19, the Philippines has given out 144,781,087 doses of coronavirus vaccine, with 66,979,873 Filipinos having received the entire primary series.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) produces travel health warnings to inform travelers and other audiences about health concerns around the world, as well as provide recommendations on how to protect themselves.
