TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – In this year’s elections, a group in Leyte is campaigning for presidential candidate Leni Robredo and vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte, stressing the necessity for women to lead the country in the next six years.

“Because of their track record, we chose ROSA (Robredo-Sara). ROSA Leyte’s chief convener, Capoocan town councilor Reniel Capaycapay, a mayoralty contender, remarked, “We have the same aim of the change in Leyte.”

The group confessed that campaigning for the tandem in Leyte is “very difficult” because the province is under the control of presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr., but they are relying heavily on volunteers.

“We come from various political parties, but we’re all working together to support the tandem,” he said in an interview on Monday.

Capaycapay is the nephew of Panteleon Alvarez, the former House Speaker and Davao Del Norte Representative, whose party, Partido Reporma, had previously indicated support for Robredo.

On April 22, the group organized a rally in Capoocan. There had been parades around Capoocan and neighbouring Carigara town before that.

The club has roughly 100 volunteers in the entire province of Leyte, with 40 of them in Capoocan town.

Albay 2nd District Rep. Jose Ma. Clemente Salceda, Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. and Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar are leading the ROSA movement nationwide.
