MANILA – Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Monday that reelected Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) have always had a cordial relationship.

Sotto’s NPC pledged its “unconditional support” to Romualdez’s quest for Speaker of the House.

“Martin is good buddies with the majority of our members. He has always been fair to us as majority leader “In a Viber message, Sotto informed the media.

Prior to the NPC announcement on Sunday, Romualdez was endorsed by the National Unity Party, one of the Commissions on Elections’ authorized political parties, during a courtesy call at his Makati mansion on Friday afternoon.

Former President and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President Rodrigo Duterte’s PDP-Laban, presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago, Nacionalista Party, and the Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. also gave Romualdez, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats president, their votes of confidence.

In a statement posted Sunday, Sotto said, “As Chairman of the NPC, and in conjunction with our HOR (House of Representatives) leaders, I officially proclaim the party’s unconditional support for Congressman Martin Romualdez’s Speakership in the 19th Congress.”
