Ano agrees to work with the next admin to make progress, and dev’t

MANILA, Philippines – Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eduardo Ano vowed on Friday to work with the next administration to realize the country’s vision and to advance the country’s governance agenda of unity toward genuine progress and development.

“As we firmly execute the next administration’s orders for local governments and the peace and order and security sectors, we commit to continuing to keep the DILG’s brand of service of being matino, mahusay, at maaasahan (intelligent, efficient, and reliable),” Ano said in a statement.

He also congratulated former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on their respective victories in the presidential and vice-presidential elections on May 9.

In the meantime, Ano will meet with incoming DILG chief Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. next month to ensure a smooth transition of responsibility.

“With President Marcos Jr. at the helm and incoming DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos providing capable leadership, we are optimistic that the DILG will be able to fulfill its supervisory mission over local government units and safeguard peace and order in our country,” he stated.

“Sama-sama tayong babangon muli tungo sa disiplinado at maunlad na Pilipinas,” he said.

They believe Abalos, the former chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, will provide solid direction and leadership to both the interior and local government sectors, according to Ano.

“We worked closely with Chairperson Abalos during the peak of the pandemic and saw how he successfully led the Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic response in the National Capital Region, resulting in a downward trend in coronavirus cases and the successful rollout of the vaccination program,” he said.

According to Ano, they are hoping that Abalos would continue and expand on the DILG’s six-year war against criminality, illegal drugs, corruption, and communist terrorism.
