Solons congratulate and wish VP-elect Sara all the best for her inauguration.
MANILA, Philippines — On Sunday, lawmakers congratulated Vice President Sara Duterte on her inauguration as the country’s 15th Vice President in Davao City.
Duterte’s victory is the “triumph of the more than 31 million Filipinos” who conveyed their message of unity for the country and their yearning for a better life for Filipinos, according to Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, the leading candidate for Speaker of the 19th Congress.
“By winning, she has brought honor to her father, President Duterte, her family, and her constituents.” In a statement, Romualdez stated, “It’s only fitting that she wishes to begin her time as Vice President in her hometown.”
Given their majority victory, Romualdez believes Duterte and President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be “on a strong platform” to realize their goals.
“I’ve witnessed firsthand their synergy, their boundless energy, dynamism, commitment to their work, and compassion, and I have no doubt that they will succeed,” Romualdez added.
Rep. Joey Salceda of Albay congratulated Duterte on her historic victory, noting that she received the most votes of any elected figure in the country, as well as the greatest vote share (61.53 percent) by a presidential or vice-presidential candidate since the late President Ramon Magsaysay.
“Since the first time we met at the Regional Development Council meetings about ten years ago, I’ve always thought she was a natural leader. When people began to look to her for national leadership, I was the least startled of all “In a statement, Salceda, who was also in Davao City, stated.
He complimented Duterte’s performance in Davao, praising the country’s first public hospice, the city’s first smart security system, the first government-induced world-class agricultural output, and the most effective peace development program.
“I wanted the people to know that her effort represented the kind of national governance they deserved,” he said. “I can feel na papunta pa lang tayo sa (we are now on our way to the) thrilling phase from now till 2028. Congratulations, Vice President Sara, and you may always count on me for advise, support, and friendship.”
On May 25, the National Board of Canvassers certified Marcos and Duterte as the presidential and vice-presidential winners of the May 9 elections.
President Duterte and Elizabeth Zimmerman were present as Duterte was sworn into office by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.
