On Saturday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. committed to strengthening ties between the Philippines and India.

A day after speaking over the phone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated Marcos on becoming the 17th President of the Philippines, Marcos made the vow.

“I’m delighted I spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone. Nagagalak naman tayo na makausap sa telepono. I’m confident that it will result in better relations between India and the United States, Marcos wrote in an Instagram and Facebook post.

According to a press release from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders discussed several areas of bilateral engagement during the phone call and “expressed delight at the rapid increase of collaboration between the two nations in recent years.”

Additionally, Modi pledged to assist the Philippines’ development initiatives under the Marcos presidency.

“In addition, the Prime Minister gave President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. an assurance that India will fully back his goals and initiatives for the development of the Philippines.
