BTA’s major priorities in BARMM are education.
Nurredha Misuari, a recently appointed BTA member, stated on Saturday that the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) is dedicated to enhancing the educational system in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by giving it the utmost importance.
“We shall give education a higher priority. When I visited the BARMM region, I was able to personally witness the crisis in education firsthand, she stated in a statement.
One of the 80 BTA members that took the oath of office in front of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday in the Heroes Hall of the Malacanang Palace was Misuari.
The interim governing body will conduct “additional research” to advance and safeguard the welfare of both sectors, she continued, adding that the BTA would also address issues impacting women and youth in BARMM.
“For the women, [we] will prioritize their health, to uphold their rights, and to give them a voice, particularly the young Muslim women in the area. During the pandemic, there are problems. Their mental health has been impacted, and there have been more abortions and young women who are having marital troubles as a result, according to Misuari.
She expressed optimism that Marcos’ leadership would help the Bangsamoro peace process forward.
It’s romantic, she remarked, to consider that the peace process began under Marcos and that, inshallah, with the assistance of Almighty Allah, and hopefully, with our combined efforts, we will succeed during the reign of another Marcos.
Nur Misuari, the founding leader of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), is Misuari’s father.
The 1976 Tripoli Agreement, which was signed by the Philippine government and Misuari while Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the father and namesake of current President Ferdinand Marcos, was in office, marked the beginning of the peace process with the Bangsamoro.

According to re-appointed member Amir Mawalil, the BTA would also prioritize seeing that the final pieces of BARMM priority legislation are passed.
Mawalil promised to cooperate with other BTA members to pass the priority codes outlined in Republic Act (RA) 11054, often known as the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
He was referring to the Revenue Code, the Indigenous Peoples’ Code, the Electoral Code, and the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code.
“In general, this is covered under the peace accord. One of the results of the peace agreements that were made is the BOL. We want to make sure that all BOL-mandated requirements are followed, he continued.
Mawalil further guaranteed that the BTA would put all of the BOL’s provisions into effect during the prolonged transition period, which runs until 2025.
One of the main reasons the BTA’s length was extended was to ensure that the provisions in the BOL, particularly those that were required to be completed during the transition period, would be completed prior to the conclusion of the new period in 2025.
