Before the public health emergency is lifted, enough vaccine supplies are essential.
Joey Concepcion, the founder of Go Negosyo, reiterated his call for the government to prepare supplies of Covid-19 vaccines and medications for the needs of the nation in the future as the state of public health emergency caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic is scheduled to expire next month.
Concepcion stated during the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday that the government should start the certificate of product registration (CPR) application process for Covid-19 vaccines and medications, such as Paxlovid and molnupiravir.
Given that the nation is still in a state of a public health emergency, emergency use authorizations (EUA) have been granted for Covid-19 vaccinations and medications.
President (Ferdinand) Marcos (Jr.) will have the option of extending or ending the public health emergency when it expires in September, according to Concepcion. Therefore, if the government decides to keep purchasing vaccines, a EUA may be required.
As part of the government’s pandemic response, he continued, it is also crucial to guarantee the supply of antiviral medications like Pfizer’s Paxlovid and molnupiravir.
“Considering the current state of immunizations and the cyclical nature of infections, antivirals are a step in the right direction. To strengthen our defenses against Covid, we must introduce antiviral medications, according to the former presidential advisor for entrepreneurship.
Concepcion stated that if the government decides to lift the status of a public health emergency, he will support the action.
“I believe we may still revoke the public health emergency, at least in my opinion. I would agree with that because, despite the fact that the number of cases is rising, those nations do not now have a public health emergency as a result of underutilization of their hospitals. He remarked in a combination of English and Filipino, “Many people got infected now, in fact, our infection levels are rising, but most of these are light and there is no need for confinement in hospitals.
Concepcion emphasized that the government should begin setting up inventories of Covid-19 vaccinations and medications though.
The inventory must be available when we need it, and preparations must be made right away, he added.
