146 public schools will receive traffic enforcement from the MMDA.

581 traffic enforcers will be deployed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to control traffic and protect pupils at 146 public schools around Metro Manila.

MMDA Task Force Special Operations (TFSO) chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija stated in a Laging Handa briefing on Tuesday that these enforcers will also assist in removing obstructions from sidewalks, “yellow boxes,” and pedestrian lanes.

“They’ll make sure there are no obstructions for a smooth flow of traffic for parents who would drop off and pick up their kids,” Nebrija added. “Sisiguraduhin pong walang naka-obstruct para tuluy-tuloy po ang daloy ng trapiko para sa mga magulang na maghahatid at magsusundo po ng kanilang mga anak.”

He said that in order to reduce traffic on Metro Manila’s busiest road, “Mabuhay Lanes,” or other roads, had also been constructed up close to Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) as part of preparations for the start of the new school year in August.

He stated that in addition to the Guadalupe Bridge at EDSA, drivers have a choice of three other bridges to cross the Pasig River.

The historic Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge in Makati City, the recently inaugurated Pantaleon-Kalayaan Bridge, and the Santa Monica Bridge are some of these bridges.

If drivers choose these alternative routes rather than traveling through EDSA, “Ito pong mga bridges na ito (These bridges) will help a lot to decongest the volume of cars in EDSA,” he said.

Additionally, he urged drivers to use these other bridges rather than EDSA, especially those coming from the cities of Mandaluyong or Pasig.
