DOST and DENR presented priority programs in the Cabinet meeting.

Tuesday’s sixth Cabinet meeting, which was presided over by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., saw the presentation of priority programs by the Departments of Science and Technology (DOST) and Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Marcos and top DOST and DENR officials discussed various initiatives to steer the nation’s scientific and technological efforts as well as communicate, manage, develop, and sustainably use the nation’s environment and natural resources, according to the press secretary for the palace Trixie Cruz-Angeles.

The growth of technology-based businesses, jobs for regional development, food security and resilience, health security, water security and environmental preservation, and energy are the DOST’s top priorities, she stated.

“In the plans of the DENR are budget realignment and strategic collaboration with other NGAs [national government agencies], LGUs [local government units], the private sector, academe, and other stakeholders; bolstering science and technology in environmental and natural resources management (e.g. Balik Scientist Program); improvement of statewide natural resource management; and enhancement of the natural capital accounting system, including the valuation of ecosystem services.

Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. presently oversees the DOST, while Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga oversees the DENR.

Solidum previously stated that he would place a high priority on using science, technology, and innovation (STI) to address the nation’s many problems.

Marcos and Yulo-Loyzaga had a meeting in July to go through environmental protection plans.

The topic of “environmental protection activities that would enable the DENR to accomplish its responsibility to safeguard and conserve the environment” was mentioned by Marcos and Yulo-Loyzaga.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) outlined their intentions to aid in alleviating the situation of Filipinos working in the nation and abroad at the most recent Cabinet meeting.

Marcos also had a meeting with the departing Omani ambassador, Munther Mahfoodh Salim Al-Mantheri.

Photos of Marcos’ encounter with the departing envoy were posted on his official Facebook page.

He captioned the picture, “We appreciate H. E. Munther Mahfoodh Salim Al-Mantheri, the outgoing Ambassador of Oman to the Philippines, for visiting us today in Malacaan Palace.”

“We value his work and contributions toward fostering a strong bond between the Philippines and Oman. We wish him luck on his new endeavor,” he continued.

On October 6, 1980, the Philippines and the Sultanate of Oman established diplomatic ties, and the ambassador to Riyadh was recognized as the nation’s non-resident ambassador to Muscat.

The Philippine government didn’t establish a permanent embassy in Muscat until March 1992, when Consul Bahnarim Guinomla was appointed Charge d’Affaires. The first Philippine Ambassador to live in residence is Ambassador Sanchez Ali.
