Volunteers from the Red Cross are on high alert as “Hinnamnor” hits Luzon.

Richard J. Gordon, the Chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), warned volunteers and employees to get ready to respond in case Super Typhoon Henry, also known as Hinnamnor on the world scale, brought torrential rains across extreme Northern Luzon.

The “Henry” spacecraft was discovered 530 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, travelling southwestward about 25 kilometers per hour as of 4 a.m. on Thursday, according to PAGASA.

It may absorb Tropical Depression Gardo, which is currently 775 kilometers to the east northeast of Itbayat and within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour around the center and gustiness of up to 230 kilometers per hour.

According to the weather service, the “Henry” trough would strengthen the southwest monsoon and could bring “moderate to occasionally severe rains” to several areas of Luzon.

Magnatay at maging alerto

When there is a bagyo parating, this is what the Red Cross chapters talk about most. (Be on the lookout.) Nakahanda kami sa Red Cross na rumespondeng muli sa ating mga kababayan sa Northern Luzon. When a typhoon is approaching, I usually tell Red Cross chapters to take this advice. If necessary, the Red Cross is prepared to assist our people in Northern Luzon again, according to a statement released by Gordon on Wednesday night.

While it monitors the situation on the ground through its chapters and through its cutting-edge operations center, the PRC encourages the public to adhere to the organization’s 4Ps: Predict, Plan, Prepare, and Practice.

Under Gordon’s direction, the PRC has mobilized an army of volunteers through its Red Cross 143 program, where each barangay forms a group of 44 volunteers who monitor the hazards in their areas of responsibility and help deliver PRC’s disaster response operations. The program upholds the motto “Volunteers + Logistics + Information Technology = a Red Cross that is Always First, Always Ready, Always There.”

With the help of its state-of-the-art response tools and data network, the PRC’s army of volunteers enables the humanitarian organization to quickly give aid in emergency circumstances brought on by hazards.
