Dengue cases in Eastern Visayas reach above 4,000.
From January until the end of August this year, there were 4,318 dengue fever cases in Eastern Visayas, with 13 fatalities, according to data released on Tuesday by the Department of Health (DOH).
According to the health agency, the number is higher than the 501 dengue cases noted during the same time period in 2021.
“Based on the three-year pattern, it was predicted that this year’s case count would rise from the low levels seen in the previous two years. In comparison to prior years, we have also strengthened our case-finding efforts, according to Leonido Olobia, the DOH’s Eastern Visayas regional dengue program manager.
From Ormoc City and Jaro in Leyte, Taft and Hernani in Eastern Samar, Calbayog City and Catbalogan City in Samar, and Maasin City, Liloan, Padre Burgos, Saint Bernard, and San Juan in Southern Leyte province, at least 13 patients perished from this ailment.
Olobia claimed that despite the increase compared to the previous year, the number of cases has decreased recently as local government organizations have intensified their battle to combat dengue.
The health agency reminded the populace of “4S” strategy and other dengue prevention measures, particularly now that the rainy season has begun.
To stop an outbreak, the “4S” strategy calls for searching for and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, seeking early consultation, using self-defense techniques, and only supporting fogging and spraying in hotspot locations where an increase in cases has been recorded for two weeks running.
A quick spike in temperature, a terrible headache, and pain in the muscles, joints, and area behind the eyes are all symptoms of dengue fever.
Some people may get rashes and varying degrees of bleeding throughout their bodies.
The health agency requested that mayors of cities and towns frequently plan cleanliness efforts to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds in their communities.
