President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is currently closely examining the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) recommendation on the optional wearing of face masks outside.

This happened after Marcos met on Thursday at Malacanang Palace in Manila with representatives from the Departments of Health (DOH) and Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“With regard to this, we are currently evaluating the IATF’s proposal on the optional use of a face mask,” Marcos stated in a statement published on his official Facebook page.

In order to receive updates on the nation’s fight against the coronavirus sickness in 2019, Marcos said he met with DOH and DILG officials (Covid-19).

He expressed his “happiness” that the number of Covid-19 cases has decreased thanks to the government’s stepped-up coronavirus vaccination program.

“We are delighted to know that due of our enhanced vaccination effort, the number of persons being infected with the coronavirus continues to reduce,” he added. “Nagagalak tayong malaman na dahil sa ating pinaigting na pagbabakuna ay patuloy ang pagbaba ng bilang ng mga nagpopositibo.”

According to Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, unless face masks are made mandatory, Filipinos must continue to wear them.

Cruz-Angeles claimed that Marcos must issue an executive order (EO) to make wearing face masks optional.

According to DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire on Wednesday, the IATF recommendation EID’s to permit the optional use of face masks only applies to low-risk individuals and low-risk environments.
