PRRD hopes that the next administration will improve Davao International Airport.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed hope that the next elected chief executive will improve the Davao International Airport, which is located in his hometown.
Duterte described Davao International Airport as “not as beautiful” as Bicol’s “most-scenic airport” and “not even half of the newly rehabilitated and expanded General Santos Airport” in his prerecorded Talk to the People, which aired Tuesday night.
Duterte recalled his order to put Davao City at the bottom of the government’s priority list for infrastructure projects.
“Noong unang meeting dito sa Cabinet, sinabi ko naman talaga sa kanila na unahin ninyo yung ibang lugar, ipahuli ninyo ang Davao kasi taga riyan ako (During our first cabinet meeting, I really told them to work first on other areas, make Davao City last because I’m a
“Kayong mga taga-Davao alam kong masakit ang loob ninyo na walang feasible na infrastructure dyan,” he added.
Duterte apologized to his fellow Dabawenyos for having fewer infrastructure projects in the area as part of his administration’s “Build, Build, Build” initiative, which saw the opening of various airports and seaports.
“That is the price we must pay, sabi ko (I said). You know, if you happen to be in a place where public works are being done, you don’t want to be labeled as someone who is “inuuna mo yung iyo, yung iba huli na lang” (putting your own needs ahead of others) “According to Duterte.
The Davao International Airport has a single 3,000-meter precision runway that primarily serves passengers from the Davao metropolitan area.
It currently serves seven airlines and handles between 3 and 4 million passengers per year.
“‘Bigyan tayo ng bagong airport,’ baka ang sunod na presidente maawa sa atin.
Wag masyadong dibdibin ninyong kasi it’s a human trait na may iba may gustong unahin. Yung iba naman ipahuli kasi gustong unahin yun iba (Perhaps the next president will feel sorry for us and build a new airport for us.) Don’t be too concerned; it’s just a human trait that some people wanted to be emphasized. Others want to be prioritized by some) “According to Duterte.
Duterte believes that the next administration will also make some improvements in his hometown.
