After the adjustment to the alert level system, Pinoys acquire jobs.
MANILA, Philippines — According to Malacanang, the switch to the Alert Level System (ALS) has increased work chances for Filipinos who are bearing the brunt of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.
According to figures given by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country’s unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in February 2022. (PSA).
However, the number of jobless Filipinos increased to 3.13 million in February, up from 2.93 million in January.
Despite this, the PSA highlighted that the unemployment rate in February 2022 was lower than the 8.8% or 4.9 million Filipinos who were unemployed in February 2021.
The “successful” implementation of ALS, according to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who also serves as the acting presidential spokesperson, has resulted in lower unemployment.
“The number of unemployed people in February 2022 is more than a million lower than the same month last year,” Andanar said in a press release. “With the transition to the Alert Level System, more Filipinos were able to rejoin the labor force, demonstrating the effective recalibration of our efforts.”
Andanar claims that the country’s present employment position is “solid proof” that the government’s Covid-19 reaction is “working.”
He did admit, though, that the government needs to do more to assist more Filipinos who are still looking for work.
“While we have made significant progress in reopening our economy, there is still much more to be done, as there are over 3 million Filipinos without jobs,” Andanar added.
Andanar believes that implementing the most lenient Alert Level 1 in other parts of the country, particularly Metro Manila, will offer up more work opportunities.
“For one thing, our Economic Team hopes to transfer the entire country to Alert Level 1 and realize the full benefits of that,” he stated, “so that more firms can function and more Filipinos can find work.”
For the first part of April, Metro Manila, along with 56 other cities and provinces and over 100 component cities and municipalities, is on Alert Level 1.
The rest of the country is still on Level 2 alert.
