To carry out administrative activities that have been delegated to public school teachers throughout the years, the Department of Education (DepEd) will hire 5,000 non-teaching employees next year.

In an effort to lighten teachers’ workloads, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa stated on Wednesday that this is the first time their organization will hire thousands of administrative personnel.

“Ideally, we’ll allocate one administrative staff member to every school, but that can’t be accomplished in a single year. During a conversation with important school administrators here, Poa informed reporters that we must go through the application procedure.

Poa claimed that administrative chores are to blame for teachers’ overwork, not their workload as teachers.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program’s compliance monitoring of pupils whose families get financial aid is one of these (4Ps).

“The DepEd will participate in 4Ps, according to the implementing rules and regulations for the 4Ps law, but it does not imply that teachers will as well. We requested that our field offices communicate with their Department of Social Welfare and Development counterparts,” Poa continued.

The education department will introduce a work-balancing tool to evaluate teachers’ working hours and how well they are used as part of its endeavor to lighten the burden.

During a discussion with the DepEd’s executive committee at the Summit Hotel in this city, important education leaders and certain local school heads highlighted the allotted administrative tasks as one of their top concerns.

“We began this dialogue right here in Tacloban, and we’ll have others in other areas. This is an excellent opportunity for our executive committee to hear the worries of our local leaders, Poa continued.

49 Departmental Order

According to the DepEd spokeswoman, Department Order 49 aims to depoliticize DepEd and promote employee professionalism.

The department’s rules are intended to encourage professionalism among the staff and teachers.

Some of our teachers look to politicians and other government figures for approval on initiatives and promotions. If there are any requests or issues, we can communicate directly with the undersecretaries and the office of the secretary, Poa remarked.

The DepEd also made it clear that professors and students can communicate on social media as long as it pertains to class directives.

Although we don’t forbid instructors from using social media, we don’t want them to go too far. As government workers, they must exhibit professionalism. According to him, recent complaints of sexual assault often begin with social media messaging.

Even in the classroom, teachers are encouraged to use social media by posting instructions and reminders on Facebook and in group chats.

What are we looking to feel depressed about? The relationships between teacher and student [in these cases] become quite intimate,” he remarked.

Sara Duterte, vice president and secretary of education, had stated that the DO 49 also aims to safeguard teachers and students from criminal acts, whether they be suspects or victims, citing the incidents of sexual harassment against students and a teacher being murdered by a student.
