Angara pledges to include targeted “ayuda” in the 2023 budget.

In order to support the sectors currently suffering from the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak, Senator Sonny Angara is steadfast in his efforts to promote the continuous provision of “ayuda” (aid).

Angara stated that the Senate presented targeted assistance as opposed to what was offered at the height of the pandemic during the continuing bicameral conference on the 2023 General Appropriations Bill (GAB).

“We want to give targeted aid to some sectors like health care workers, farmers, fisherfolk, the transport industry, senior citizens, those who lost their jobs, and the poor,” Angara said. “We want to give targeted aid to some sectors like health care workers, farmers, fisherfolk, the transport industry, operators and draybers of public utility vehicles, and those who are unemployed.”

According to the chair of the committee on finance, the government cannot continue to distribute cash in the same manner as it did during the lockdowns since there are insufficient finances as a result of a drop in revenue collections.

Angara also promised that the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens, which was funded by Republic Act 11916 until it expired on July 30 and included a 100% increase from PHP500 to PHP1,000, will be funded in 2019.

The projected 2023 budget also included an increase in funds for Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially-Incapacitated Patients.

“We made sure that all Filipinos, whatever their status in life, would be given appropriate medical care when they are unwell,” Angara said. “Siniguro natin na lahat ng Pilipino, ano man ang kanilang estado sa buhay, ay mabibigyan ng karampatang serbisyong medikal.”

In addition to the country’s GDP growth of 7.6 percent in the third quarter, Marikina (2nd District) Representative Stella Quimbo claimed that the Marcos administration’s proposal to extend aid programs would speed the country’s economic turnaround.

The proposed national budget of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. includes PHP206.50 billion in cash aid and subsidies to support disadvantaged industries in the face of rising commodity prices.

On December 5, Congress hopes to wrap up the bipartisan conference by approving the 2023 GAB.
