French doctors have added another week to their strike in demand of better pay and working conditions.

The Medecins Pour Demain (Doctors for Tomorrow) collective announced in a statement that the strike will last the entire week of January 2–8, with a protest march planned for this Thursday in Paris.

On Monday, the day the strike was initially supposed to end, the group stated that the decision had been made because the government had not responded to the demands made by general practitioners (GPs).

GPs’ minimum consultation fees should be raised from their present level of €25 ($26) to €50 ($53), according to the collective, which called for the strike to begin on December 26. They also demanded improvements to their overall working conditions.

In fact, the statement claimed that our minister had unfairly chastised us.

It made reference to Health Minister Francois Braun’s remarks from the previous week, in which he criticized physicians for engaging in protests “at a time of tremendous hardship” as France battles an uptick in bronchiolitis, flu, and Covid-19 infections.
