
For the Santo Nino feast, Manila has announced the shutdown of many roadways.
This weekend, several highways close in the vicinity of the two Santo Nino parishes in Tondo and Pandacan in the nation’s capital.
The Lakbayaw and Buling Buling 2023 contests won’t be held in certain places, according to a warning from the Manila Public Information Office on Friday.
From January 14 to 15, the following highways will be closed due to the Lakbayaw:
- From Moriones Street to Chacon Street, N. Zamora St.
- The section of St. Maria Street between Moriones and Morga Streets.
- J. Nolasco Street from Morga Street to N. Zamora Street.
- The section of Morga Street between Asuncion and Juan Luna Streets
- The portion of Ortega Street between Asuncion and Soliman streets.
- The portion of Lakandula Street between Asuncion and Laya Streets
- Lalaya Street from Lakandutla Street to CM. Recto Avenue.
- Chacon Street from Cano Street to N. Zamora Street.
- Soliman Street from Morga Street to Ortega Street / N. Zamora Street
The general public may use the following detours:
-All cars using J. Nolasco St. heading to Tondo Church must turn right onto Morga St., left onto Asuncion St., straight onto Tuazon St., or right onto Wagas St. to reach their destination.
-All cars using N. Zamora St. arriving from Pritil must turn left onto Moriones St. before continuing on Juan Luna St. to the destination.
-All cars using C.M. Recto Avenue/Asuncion Street must turn left onto Lakandula Street in order to reach their destination.
On the other hand, starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, the following routes will be closed for the Buling-Buling event.
- From Quirino Avenue to Palumpong St., Jesus St.
- Palumpong Street from Jesus Street to Beata Street.
- Beata Street from Jesus Street to T. Claudio Street.
- From Quirino Ave. to Hilium St., E. Zamora St.
- From T. Claudio Street to Pedro Gil Street, via ML. Carreon St.
The following alternate routes are suggested for motorists: All vehicles planning to use the section of Jesus Street coming from the Mabini Bridge (Nagtahan) must turn right onto Pres. Quirino Avenue and proceed there.
All cars wishing to use the section of E. Zamora St. from Pres. Quirino Ave. must either proceed directly to the Mabini Bridge or turn left onto P. Guazon St. to reach their destination.
All cars entering from the Paco-Sta Mesa Bridge/Interlink and planning to use the Beata Street to Palumpong Street stretch must proceed directly to Pres. Quirino Avenue and then to their final destination.
Both the Lakbayaw and Buling Buling dance festivals are devoted to the infant Jesus Christ.
