This year, the Philippines anticipates over 5 million foreign visitors, according to the DOT.
This year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) hopes to bring in 5 million tourists from outside.
The nation welcomed roughly 2.6 million visitors in 2017, according to Christina Frasco, the tourism secretary, in a televised interview on Thursday.
In terms of 2023, she explained, “the goal is to double that amount to at least 4.8 million tourists.”
The target number of foreign visitors to the nation was 1.7 million in 2022.
Considering that we only reopened our borders in February 2022, Frasco noted, “We far exceeded this aim by approximately a million arrivals.”
The ‘eTravel’ system was put in place by the federal government to assist the DOT in achieving its objective of drawing more tourists in 2023. One Health Pass was replaced by a one-stop electronic travel declaration system.
Additionally, the DOT and the Department of Transportation are aiming to modernize the Davao International Airport, Pier 1 in Cebu City, and Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 2.
The DOT also started initiatives to promote domestic tourism and make the nation ready to welcome visitors from around the world. These include “Bisita Be My Guest” and “Philippine Experience.”
When asked about the proposal to change the holiday economics law, Frasco noted that it gives families the chance to spend time together and travel.
“Increasing the number of long weekends undoubtedly benefits domestic tourism. Recently, our President, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., issued a proclamation increasing the number of long weekends to nine, which sparked a great deal of interest and enthusiasm among Filipinos as they planned their travels for 2023 “Added she.
Holidays that fall on a weekend would be shifted to the following Monday under this proposal.
In order to increase domestic tourism, former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo enacted Republic Act 9492 in 2007, which shifted all regular and extraordinary holidays to the nearest Monday.
Benigno Aquino III, a late president, put a halt to this practice with Proclamation 84, which he issued in 2010.
