Marcos meets with Chinese and American businessmen

To discuss investments and other collaborations, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with business executives from China and the United States on Monday.

According to a press release from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), representatives of the Chinese state-owned company China Communications Construction Co. Ltd (CCCC) paid President Marcos a courtesy call at Malacaan Palace and pledged to make additional investments in the wake of the President’s state visit earlier this month.

The 270-km Laoag City-Rosario City Highway Project and the introduction of Chinese Juncao technology to the Philippines were proposed by officials of the China Communications Construction Co. Ltd, according to the PCO.

For the cultivation and processing of Juncao grass, the CCCC intended to construct a Juncao Technology Demonstration Center and a Juncao Industrial Park.

The Fujian Agriculture and Forest University created Juncao, a hybrid of the Giant Napier Grass, using tissue culture on eight different varieties of grass.

Once approved, the proposed Juncao technology project will be sponsored by the Chinese help to other countries.

Additionally, CCCC representatives gave Marcos an update on their ongoing infrastructure projects in the Philippines, such as the North & South Harbor Bridge and the Samal Island-Davao City Connector Project.

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are a “key aspect,” according to Marcos, of his administration’s economic strategy.

It may be a joint venture with a local partner or a commercial enterprise of any kind. Of course, the PPP, where you partner with the government, and even G2G (government-to-government) agreements, are also things we’ve been doing for a while and repeatedly want to advance, he said.

Although he noted that his administration will not restrict these collaborations to PPPs alone, he claimed that the government has modified the laws and regulations governing the creation of PPPs to make them more appealing to the private sector.

In light of the dangers posed by climate change, he also hoped that the CCCC might assist the Philippines in implementing projects that assure environmental sustainability.

Chinese state-owned company CCCC specializes in building roads, bridges, and trains as part of its transportation infrastructure projects.

The CCCC has currently operated in more than 150 countries and areas and has more than 60 wholly owned subsidiaries.

The CCCC participates in current private-led reclamation projects in Metro Manila, such as the Manila Waterfront City Development Project and the Pasay Harbor City Reclamation Project, in addition to government-sponsored initiatives.

improved PH-US relations

Members of the US-Philippines Society, a nonprofit group that seeks to strengthen historical links between the two countries, were also welcomed by Marcos at the Palace.

During their meeting, the President emphasized the value of maintaining close ties with the US, Southeast Asia, and the whole Asia Pacific region in light of the current geopolitical difficulties.

This is the time, according to Marcos, “when we once again look to our friends and partners in the United States to be our treaty partner, and of course, our neighbors in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and the entire Asia Pacific region reaching out to the Indo-Pacific.”

“These collaborations are now more significant than they have ever been in our shared history. And for that reason, I am thrilled to see how busy the US-Philippines Society is, he continued.

He also praised the strengthening of connections between the US and the Philippines, which he called a “evolving partnership” in light of the recent changes.

The US-Philippines Society is a private sector initiative created to increase interaction and understanding between the US and the Philippines through basic and/or applied research in the areas of security, trade, investments, tourism, the environment, history, education, and culture, which would benefit both the American public and the people of the Philippines.
