Filipino teenagers are urged by a Japanese envoy to study Nihongo
Nihongo proficiency could give Filipino children a “competitive edge” when applying for scholarships and jobs in Japan and improving their understanding of Japanese culture, according to ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa on Saturday.
Speaking to more than a hundred Filipino Nihongo students at the Nihongo Fiesta 2023, the ambassador said that by learning the language, they too had the ability to bring the two nations closer together.
When applying for Japanese employment and scholarships, being able to converse in Japanese helps you stand out and offers you an edge. Also, it can help you overcome cultural boundaries and forge deep bonds with fellow Nihongo learners and Japanese people, the man added.
“I recommend that you keep up your Japanese language studies. Although it might be challenging, I think the benefits outweigh the challenges,” he continued.
Filipino people are eligible for a number of scholarships and teaching exchange programs offered by Japan each year.
One of these is the Japan Exchange and Teaching program, which hires a successful applicant as a sports exchange advisor or assistant language instructor in Japan.
advantages of Japanese
One of the teachers who attended the event, Shanadey Fernandez of the De La Salle University-College of Liberal Arts, described how rewarding it is to teach the language because it may open up additional chances.
Remember “how you started liking the Japanese,” she counsels aspiring Nihongo teachers.
“Remember that so you may convey it to your kids. I believe it would be very difficult to study the language without the love, fun, and excitement—of these sentiments.
In order for the kids to understand how essential the Japanese language is and how it will benefit them in the future, she continued, “as teachers, let’s refresh ourselves always, go back and look at how you started.”
During the one-day language festival in Mandaluyong City, Nihongo speeches by Filipino students and professionals were highlighted.
The occasion also featured artistic and cultural performances, such as Leonard Eto’s taiko (Japanese percussion instrument) performance.
