The Philippines is looking for laborers to help restore its war-torn cities.

In order to reconstruct its war-torn cities, the Ukrainian government is working with Filipino experts.

Kiev will bring up potential labor cooperation with the Philippines once more, according to Chargé d’affaires Denys Mykhailiuk of the Ukraine Embassy in Malaysia, which has jurisdiction over the Philippines.

In a press conference held on Wednesday in Makati City, he declared, “[W]e will start talks about the Filipino workforce to come since this reconstruction project would need a big increase in labor.” The envoy is visiting Manila for four days.

I see great space to improve (relations),” he continued. “Hardworking Filipinos will be highly welcomed there to boost our progress and Filipino investors would be very much welcomed.”

Mykhailiuk claimed that although labor negotiations had started prior to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2022, no deal had yet been achieved.

The ambassador claimed that in order to hasten victory and liberate more Russian-occupied territory, Ukraine continued its offensive against Russian forces.

Only 15% of the territory under occupation is currently directly harmed by the ongoing conflict, he claimed, because the battle line has been stabilized.

The envoy hoped that Filipino companies, particularly those in the construction industry, would invest and look to Ukraine after Kiev liberates additional territory.

He declared, “[W]e are here to proclaim that Ukraine is now reasonably safe for business.”

According to Mykhailiuk, Ukraine wants to develop commerce with Manila because it considers Manila to be a “priority nation” in the area.

“Unfortunately, bilateral trade has decreased by 94% since the war began. These need to be fixed, he said.

The ambassador declared that Kiev, a significant wheat exporter, is prepared to assist Manila in establishing a “grain bank” and expanding crop exports via the grain corridor, which enables Ukraine to securely transit commercial food from important Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.

Our silos are full of grain, we can provide right away, and the ball is in your court, Mykhailiuk continued. “We have proposed to the Government of the Philippines.”
