Governor Gwendolyn Garcia stated on Tuesday that the provincial administration wants architect Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr. to be a part of the plan to move the Cebu Provincial Capitol from this capital city to Balamban town in the west.

Garcia claimed that the eminent urban and environmental planner paid her a visit on Monday to provide a master plan for the province’s tourism development.

As the capitol has been seeking to purchase more lots in the region, she claimed she urged Palafox to assist her in moving the provincial government’s seat to the 17-hectare property in Cebu’s shipbuilding hub.

Additionally, the provincial administration intends to relocate line agencies’ regional offices to Balamban.

“This project is legacy-related. I’m hoping we can cooperate,” Garcia remarked.

However, the governor pointed out that Palafox’s professional price might be a “not-so-cheap business rate.”

In the 1980s, Palafox assisted in the development of the Cebu Business Park while serving as a master planner for the Ayalas.

He also contributed to Dubai’s transformation from a village in the desert into a city.

In February of last year, Garcia came up with the idea of moving the capital to Balamban, citing the need for rural development in light of the deteriorating traffic situation in the city.

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Austal Shipbuilding Co., and Advanced Catamaran Composites Inc. are based in Balamban.
