To meet its goal for the “Chikiting Ligtas” measles-rubella and oral polio vaccine supplemental immunization activity (MR-OPV SIA), the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista is increasing its efforts.

House-to-house immunization teams were deployed starting on Saturday, according to municipal health officer Dr. Melba Billones, to achieve their goal of immunizing 6,277 children between the ages of nine and 59 months against measles-rubella and 7,343 children between the ages of zero and 59 months against polio.

In a Tuesday interview, Billones added, “We have doubled our strategy by establishing sites and doing house-to-house immunization simultaneously.

She acknowledged that their community had poor participation, but they will work hard to meet their goal.

The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported that as of May 15, San Jose de Buenavista has achieved 20.44 percent on MR and 21.50 percent on OPV since the activity began on May 2.

“We have health personnel assigned at the fixed sites (Rural Health Unit and Barangay Health Stations), while others do the house-to-house campaign,” the woman stated.

She stated that a health team is placed at the Robinsons Place Antique every Friday for the fixed site immunization, with the IPHO on duty every Tuesday and Thursday.

The province of Antique has thus far immunized 18,178 or 31.09% of the 58,472 children targeted for MR vaccination and 21,820 or 31.92% of the 68,339 children targeted for OPV vaccination.
