DSWD chief calls for stronger public-private sector collaboration 👥🤝

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has participated in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Guild Awards to acknowledge the exceptional CSR projects and collaborations of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) members, aiming to create sustainable impacts in impoverished communities.

These projects have made significant contributions in various areas such as culture and the arts, environment, disaster resilience, health, education, enterprise development, and financial inclusivity.

During the 2023 CSR Guild Awards held in Makati City, Secretary Rex Gatchalian of the DSWD urged LCF member companies to unite and collaborate with the government to uplift the lives of underprivileged and marginalized Filipinos.

In his keynote address, he emphasized that nation-building is not solely about providing material resources but also about offering intangible support.

“The best form of nation-building occurs when we come together, dedicate our time, step out of our comfort zones, and strive to make a difference,” he said.

He further stated that nation-building is not determined by the amount of money given but by the love, care, and commitment invested in the endeavor.

LCF is an alliance of private corporations and foundations that promote and enhance the strategic implementation of CSR among its members and the wider business community, contributing to sustainable national development.

Secretary Gatchalian highlighted the Food STAMP Program, a priority program of the DSWD personally approved by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. He encouraged LCF members to support the program by partnering with the DSWD to transform the social behavior of potential beneficiaries through nutrition development classes and the promotion of healthy food choices, enabling them to become healthy consumers.

“We need the private sector to eradicate hunger,” he emphasized.

Gatchalian also underscored the ongoing retooling of the DSWD’s programs and services, including the registration, licensing, and accreditation process for public and private Social Welfare and Development Agencies (SWDAs).

“Shortly, we will introduce a series of memorandum circulars to streamline processes, forms, requirements, and steps and simplify your regulatory obligations. We recognize that you are partners in nation-building, and we must make it easier for you to contribute,” he stated, expressing his gratitude to LCF members for their valuable contributions to nation-building.

He concluded by affirming that the DSWD will continue to foster partnerships with the private sector and implement innovative solutions to address poverty and hunger, in line with the vision of the Marcos administration.
