Beginning Jan. 15, a section of Roxas Blvd. will be closed for 60 days.

Beginning January 15, the southbound segment of Roxas Boulevard will be blocked to vehicular traffic to allow the Department of Public Works and Highways to repair a broken box culvert in front of the Libertad Pumping Station in Pasay City (DPWH).

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin rehabilitation work on the said date, which will necessitate the closure of nearby unaffected portions of Roxas Boulevard.

The frequent “pounding” of automobiles, he added, could compromise the project’s structural stability.

“Siguro pu-pwede mag-counterflow ang ating mga light cars, but yung ating mga trailers, mga trucks, ay ire-reroute po natin,” Abalos added.

“The agency has set up other routes for motorists who are affected.” In addition, directed traffic signs will be erected in strategic spots to better direct the public,” he said.

From Bonifacio Drive/Roxas Boulevard, light vehicles can take the Roxas Boulevard – Buendia Avenue service road, turn right at Buendia Avenue Extension, and then turn left at Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard to reach their destination.

They can also turn right at the HK Sun Plaza entrance road and then left at Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard to reach their destination, or turn left at President Quirino Avenue.

From Bonifacio Drive southbound to Roxas Boulevard southbound, heavy vehicles such as trucks and trailers may turn left to P. Burgos Avenue, straight towards Finance Road and Ayala Boulevard, turn right to San Marcelino Street, take P. Quirino Avenue to the South Luzon Expressway to their destination.

Additional MMDA traffic enforcers will be deployed in the vicinity after the road portion is blocked for the length of the project.

“We are requesting the public’s patience as we work to alleviate the difficulty that the temporary road closure would cause.” However, this is required to safeguard the safety of motorists and pedestrians, according to Abalos.
