Based on the seven-day moving average of new infections, the OCTA Research Group reported on Saturday that the growth of Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been slowly declining.

Dr. Guido David, an OCTA Research Group member, tweeted that the growth rate had dropped to 3% from 5% the day before.

“New cases in the NCR are dropping once the daily growth rate goes negative,” he tweeted.

According to the January 11 report, NCR’s reproduction number fell to 3.22.

The number of people infected by a Covid-19 case is known as the reproduction number.

While the decline in growth rate is clear evidence that the NCR’s trend is peaked, David points out that data backlogs and late reports still exist.

“If this trend continues, we could see 16K to 18K cases in the NCR today (Saturday) and 15K to 16K cases tomorrow (Sunday),” he wrote in his tweet.

NCR had the highest cases (18142) in the last two weeks, followed by Calabarzon (9172) and Central Luzon (3325).

On Saturday, 39,004 new illnesses were recorded across the country.
