The Supreme Court (SC) stated on Monday that Malacanang had officially accepted Judge Ana Marie Mas of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) as an associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA).

Mas will fill the position created by now-retired Supreme Court Justice Edgardo Delos Santos in the CA.

After 11 years in the CA, Delos Santos was appointed to the SC by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019.

Due to health issues, he stepped down on June 30, 2021, a year earlier than planned.

On January 26, Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao congratulated her provincial mate on Facebook.

“Welcome to the firm, Atty. The new Court of Appeals Justice, Ana Marie T. Mas. The people of Antiqueno are proud of you! Kruhay! (Long live Kruhay!) Cadiao made a comment.

Mas was appointed to the Manila RTC in 2015 after being admitted to the bar in 2001.

One of the instances Mas worked on was the direct bribery conviction of a sheriff from the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region.

For demanding PHP15,000 from workers of a broadsheet mired in a labor dispute, the officer was sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
